Thirds suffer heavy defeat
Playing host to Murrayfield DAFS III, Watsonians III were beaten for a second successive week at Craiglockhart, this time by 105 runs.
After a promising start in the field, with openers Fergus McNab and Mark Handyside reducing the visitors to 47-4, the game was taken away from the bowling side with a 139-run stand between captain Phil Hawkins and Abdul Reyaz. When the breakthrough finally came in the 33rd over, spirits lifted in the field and the tail was promptly dealt with as 186-4 turned into 206 all out.
With a quick outfield hopes were high for the chase however the tone was set when the first wicket fell just two balls into the innings. Steve Lockhart and Oliver Gaywood managed to get into the 20s but with no big scores or partnerships to be seen on the scorecard the batting reply fell well short of the required total.
Next week sees the thirds play their first away game of the season as they look to get their season on track.
