All at Myreside were sad to learn the news that WCC stalwart Joe Flannigan passed away over the weekend.
Joe’s funeral takes place on Monday, November 21 at Mortonhall.
Over the last few years a lot has changed at WCC, but one thing remained constant – the presence of Joe Flannigan and Bob Lockhart watching from the boundary and balcony.
Sadly Joe passed away at the weekend and he will be fondly remembered by all current and ex-WCC players for his words of encouragement or his opinion on your batting stance should he felt you needed it! He followed the first XI home and away with Bob and often John Martin and he was so proud to see the team competing for top flight honours over the last few years.
However, that pride did not compare to what he felt when his son Keith and grandson Euan played for the same WCC side a couple of summers ago. And there is no doubt that Keith and Euan will carry on the Flannigan-WCC link for many years to come.
A very kind man who had a nice word for everyone, even sometimes the opposition and the umpires, Joe will be very sadly missed at WCC.
Our thoughts are with Joe’s family Keith, Jan, Euan and Janey at this time.

All at Myreside were saddened to learn the news that Watsonian Ian Berrie passed away earlier this week.
Ian was an Honorary Vice President of WCC and during his long association with the club captained both the 1st and 2nd XI’s. Ian was also Watsonian CC’s first ever Club President.
In his cricket career Ian scored in excess of 10,000 runs including a stint with Kirkcaldy CC when he lived in Fife.
This run feat was more remarkable in that Ian hit just the one century in his Watsonian career, in fact he would often say (with a big grin on his face) that he was like Jack Hobbs, in scoring more centuries after the age of 40 than before as in Ian’s case his sole century scored in 1975 as against none before he turned 40.
Ian still occasionally attended games at Myreside and it was a pleasure to have him on the balcony in 2010 alongside other Honorary Vice Presidents when the 1st XI hosted West of Scotland last year.
Ian will be missed by all at Myreside and our thoughts are with his wife Shirley, his family and friends.
The funeral will be held at Mortonhall at 11am on Saturday 10th September (apologies for the earlier mention on this site of the 3rd)
