Under 13s Start League Season with a Bang

The U13 A Team began their League season with an excellent 6 wicket victory against Penicuik on the main square at Myreside.

Penicuik opted to bat first and never really got going with only two batsmen just reaching double figures. The bowling was backed up by some athletic fielding which produced two run outs and a couple of well judged catches. Pick of the bowlers was Alasdair Middleton with 3 for 11. Also bowling well was Jamie Cousin with 2 wickets and 1 each for Rory Evans, James Kidd and Alex Boyd. A very good team effort.

Penicuik’s innings finished in the 18th over when they were all out for a total of 54 but the bowlers should take note that there were 11 wides – too many when the game becomes more competitive.

The Watsonian innings got off to a dreadful start as Andrew Cockburn, Jamie Cousin and Kerr Stoddart all departed for Ducks in the face of some aggresive bowling from the Penicuik opening bowlers. Thankfully, Rory Evans dug in and weathered the storm to see off the openers. Rory batted very sensibly with Alasdair Middleton, until he too was dismissed for 13 and Alasdair was joined by the skipper, Adam Hastings.

Having seen off the best bowlers, the bowling became a bit more wayward and Adam in particular punished the bad ball, hitting four 4s in a quick fire 18 not out and taking us to victory in the 14th over. Alasdair supported well scoring 10 not out.

A good victory to start the season but the boys will need to concentrate on reducing the number of extras conceded, in particular reducing the number of wides we bowl.

Don’t forget you can keep up withour League position as teh season progresses on the new Lothian Junior Cricket website http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/lothianjuniorcricketleagues/

Good win guys – well done from everyone in the Mens 2s. You’ll certainly be putting us all under pressure for our spots over the coming years. DB.

We are certain to see a few of them in the senior squads this season. There is a great deal of talent in the ranks throughout the youth section of the club and it was great to see the Under 13s in action on Monday night looking smart in their new WCC Canterbury shirts. Keep up the good work lads and play well! WebAdmin
