Stag Night at Myreside as U13′s come up just short
The U13 league program continued on Monday when Grange visited Myreside on a mercifully dry, though chilly evening.
Keith Stoddart again reports on the U13 B sides league progress
Calum C lost the toss and Grange elected to bat with a team containing two or three familiar faces from our match last week against SMRH.Regulars will remember the SMRH star no 9 batsman who, this week, popped up at no 3 for Grange and proved arguably to be the matchwinner on this occasion.
Captain Calum made sure that everyone got a bowl but it was one of those nights where our line could have been better all the way through the attack. We gave away too many wides and no balls and in the 20 over format this can be extremely costly – so it proved as bowling extras came to 24, bettered only by GCC no 3 with 33 not out.
Some generally smart fielding kept the lid on Grange with a superb one stump run out from Calum C summing up the effort.
GCC reached 102 which was going to require a brisk effort from the batsmen. Calum Hilton and Jamie Richardson played very sensible cricket to get the team into position averaging just under 4 an over without ever looking in danger.Jamie improved on last week’s knock with a fine 21 including some excellent straight driving whilst Calum H played some classical cover shots – a pleasure to watch.
Kathryn and Matthew put together a useful partnership with both in control until Matthew got an irregular bounce to be bowled somewhat unluckily . We then entered the key phase of the game which required us to rattle along at around 7 an over but due mostly to some very tight bowling from GCC we were never quite able to play the shots . A maiden in the 18th over pretty much sealed the game and in the end we ran out of time to knock them off finishing on 78 with Tom on 4 no and Kathryn with a gutsy 16 no .
So no disgrace at all as GCC will trouble all the other teams in the league. Heads held high and on to the game next Monday!
