15s Kick Off Season with 2 out of 2

The Watsonian U15s got their season off to a winning start with back to back victories against West Lothian in the league and SMRH in the Scottish Cup last week.

15s Head Coach Mike Cash brings the story of the weeks action to www.watsoniancricket.co.uk

The clash against West Lothian turned out to be a tense affair with West Lothian requiring 7 to win off the last over which was bowled by Ian Hay, (2 wickets each for Hay, Nimmo and Bedford).

In truth there should have been no tension as the side we put out should have been good enough to secure a victory against quite a young West Lothian side with some ease, but our batting let us down badly and we relied on a generous number of “extras” to post a defendable total though a useful 25 runs from Ian Hay coming in at number 8 was important too. Too many catches went down too though the gathering gloom may not have helped!

In the Friday fixture SMRH posted a useful 135 from their 20 overs in the Cup game with pick of the bowlers Tom Gilchrist picking up the crucial wicket of their captain and leading batsman Scott Docherty (first ball!). The SMRH bowling was not strong enough to prevent a comfortable run chase with Chris Cash scoring 81 (getting out with 1 run required!) and James Bedford a supportive and colourful 23 before Duncan Cockburn (23 no) maintained the momentum and finished the game off and we could all go home to warm up!

Thanks to Ben Fox for supervising this game and to the good number of parent supporters huddled in front of the scoreboard.

The 15s have a gap of 2 weeks before the next fixture against Penecuik (away) on Wed 27th May.
