Team Selection for 10th & 11th July – Updated

The sides for the four weekend league fixtures have been named.

The First XI host Uddingston at Myreside on Saturday and will be looking to return to winning ways following a disappointing display at the weekend.

Uddingston’s talents are well known and they will be led by Ricky Bawa who is in miserly form having conceded just 22 runs from his last 20 SNCL overs whilst picking up 6 wickets in the process whilst one time internationalist turn grass cutter Paul Hoffman will pose a threat at the top of each innings.

Captain Paige will be looking for the momentum gained from a run of six unbeaten to return as the 1st XI look to keep up the pressure near the top of the table. Paige recalls Vice Captain Euan Stubbs to the XI in place of Andy Learmonth with the remaining 10 unchanged from last weekend.

The Second XI will also be seeking to put a bad day at the office behind them and have no better opportunity to do so than with a league double header at home. On Saturday they take on a Largo side who, whilst struggling for consistency showed they have some excellent young performers and wise heads when the sides clashed at East Drive earlier in the year and they will provide a stern test at Craiglockhart.

On Sunday the 2s switch across the road to Myreside to take on the talented East Academy for the first time in the league. The 2nd XI came up against a number of the East squad last year in the rain curtailed Presidents Trophy match and this year the East Academy who play each Division One side once have taken some notable scalps and produced some exciting performances so far this season.

The 2s welcome back Euan Robertson, Zan Sevak, Raj Routray, Andy Learmonth, Chris Cash & Pete ‘Pistols’ Legget into the side for Saturday’s fixture and also give a first start to the season to young all rounder Patrick Baker as they make 7 changes from the side that lost to Holy Cross.

The 2nd XI make 3 further changes for the Academy fixture with Pete Legget on Scotland U17 duty and Vijay Saisubramanian unavailable, in addition Paddy Baker has been released from the Saturday squad to enable him to captain the Academy side on Sunday, this means 12 ‘Sonians who have played East League cricket already this summer for the club will be on display, hopefully Paddy will score all his weekend’s runs on Saturday against Largo and get a decent test from the ‘Sonians bowlers when he strides to the crease on Sunday!

The Third XI had a good day on Saturday and look to make it 2 wins in a row as the league table is starting to tighten up.

Ollie Gaywood will again look to Steve Lockhart who hit 98 not out last week and Gareth Burnett to lead the from the front with the bat whilst he is able to call on a squad with the perfect blend of youth and experience that will offer him a variety of bowling options as they travel to Roseburn Park to take on Murrayfield DAFS 3rd XI in a crucial game. The game will be played on an artificial wicket so batting and bowling in trainers (even though this experience campaigner reckons you should still field in spikes!).
