Sides for Saturday 17th July
The sides have been selected for this Saturday’s league action.
It is First v Second as the First XI travel to Raeburn Place to take on Grange who sit top of the SNCL table.
‘Sonians captained by Euan Stubbs this weekend in the absence of Steve Paige have the luxury of being able to call on numerous players with a depth of SNCL experience with last seasons second top SNCL Premier wicket taker Raj Routray returning to the side following a run of games for the Second XI that has seen him get some valuable overs under his belt.
Also in for the Myreside Men are Andy Learmonth and Vijay Saisubramanian both who have played massive roles in the second string sides rise to the top of the East League table and who both have an abundance of SNCL experience behind them. Whilst members of the ‘Sonians squad are away on Scotland A duty and miss the clash the hosts will also be missing key players in Hairs and Maiden (Scotland A & Injury) so it will be an intriguing contest displaying the depth that all successful SNCL clubs squads are required to have.
The 2s travel the shortest of journeys to Meggetland to play Boroughmuir with a youthful looking XI in which 5 of the 11 men on show will be aged 21 or under.
The East Academy Captain Patrick Baker fresh from a fine all round display against the 2s on Sunday is joined by his Merchiston school colleague and Scotland U17 allrounder Peter Legget whilst Captain Breach will look to the Boorman brothers to offer pace and spin with Nick Boorman looking to build on his impressive spell of 4-14 on Sunday. Recent GWC leaver Chris MacFarlane completes the quintet of youths whilst Flannigan, Robertson, Sevak, Yellowlees, Fox and the skipper himself will be the wise heads on the field.
The Third XI grace the main square at Myreside for the first time this season in a must win fixture against Leith FAB 2s. With no play in Division 5 last week the 3s will be looking to keep the winning momentum going and whilst captain Ollie Gaywood is yet to name his side he is certain to include allrounder Geoff Harding and Ross Brooks in his line up whilst calling on many of the successful under 15s and under 13s club members.
