Ton Up Flanners Leads the Way
‘Sonians were in pre-season action at Myreside on Saturday against an Edinburgh University XI who were featuring Watsonians Cairns, Paxton & Routray.
The phrase ‘Warm up’ had more than one meaning on a chilly and windy day at Myreside however Ryan Flannigan added some heat as he powered to an unbeaten 124 supported by good knocks from Stuart Chalmers, Craig Wright and some late hitting from Peter Legget and David Breach as the Myreside Men racked up 267 in their 45 overs.
In response Edinburgh Uni started well with a fine opening partnership only broken by Stuart Chalmers debut wicket which was followed up by another next ball. The Uni again built another useful partnership until Chris Cash removed George Cairns before bowling through his spell to finish with figures of 4-32. Despite some late aggressive hitting from Routray the hosts ran out winners by about 60 runs.
A useful work out for the guys on a decent April Myreside deck.
All at WCC also wish to congratulate our rugby playing friends of WFC on staying in Premier One yesterday afternoon with a victory over Melrose.
